Forerunners of Christ
The coming of the Promised Savior, Jesus, was foretold throughout the Old Testament. Noah was among those. Immediately after the flood he built an altar to the Lord and sacrificed a burnt offering pointing to Jesus’ sacrificial offering on the altar of the cross. Others foretold Jesus coming – among them, Moses, David, and Isaiah. Finally, John the Baptist came as THE forerunner. He got to point to Jesus as the fulfilment of the prophecies. John faithfully preached Jesus without looking for worldly gain – for this world is broken by sin. Instead, John looked for the new creation to come, which we look forward to by faith in Jesus.
