Jeremiah 7:1-11 ▪ I Corinthians 12:1-11 ▪ ✞ Luke 19:41-18
In today’s Gospel (Luke 19: 41-18) Jesus weeps over Jerusalem and its Temple because of its coming destruction. Destruction would come, because the city refused to see that God visited them in the Person of Jesus. Jesus then cleansed the Temple of merchandising as a type of the cleansing he would earn by his death in the sinner’s place. The lesson is a call to us to renewed obedience by gathering where Jesus visits us today – in Word and Sacrament. As he visits us in Word and Sacrament, he cleanses us from all our sins so that we might serve with our various gifts (I Corinthians 12:1-11) in the Temple of his Church.
