“For by grace you have been saved through
faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God”— Ephesians 2:8, 9

Easter 2 – April 12, 2026

Service Folder
The second Sunday of Easter has traditionally been called “Quasimodo Geniti” (pronounced KWAsi-MOdo- JENetee) Sunday. (The literary character from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, “Quasimodo,” got his name from this Sunday.) It is Latin for the first two words of today’s Introit: “Like newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the Word. The Word joined to Water, that is, Baptism, gave you a new birth in the Risen Lord Jesus. Today’s Epistle lesson (I John 5:4-12) declares that this new birth gives you victory over the world. We see that victory in today’s Old Testament and Gospel lessons. God will give the Israelites victory over Jericho by acting on his Word (Joshua 6:1-5). God gave the disciples victory over the world by showing them his nail-marked and spear-marked side in his resurrected body (John 20:19-31).
