The season of Advent, begins by focusing on the lowly coming of Jesus. His coming was first promised when Adam and Eve fell to the devil’s temptation in paradise. When they fell, all humanity fell with them and paradise was broken. Fast forward four millenia, Matthew shows us Promised Savior: “Behold, your king is coming to you, lowly and riding on a donkey” (Matt. 21:5). Jesus rides into Jerusalem, lowly on donkey; lowly to die on the cross for the sins of the world to deliver us from the devil and his hold over us, our sin. Today Jesus continues to come to us in the lowly Means of Grace, words, water, bread and wine, delivering to us the salvation he won for us and recreating us anew in him.. So we sing with that Palm Sunday crowd: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matt. 21:9)
