Easter is the Christian Church’s High Feast. Sunday’s lessons all highlight the reason for it – the resurrection of Jesus from the dead
– Joshua 3:1, 9-17: As the Ark led the children of Israel through the Jordan River on dry land, the Risen Jesus leads us through death to the resurrection of the dead and eternal life.
– I Corinthians 5:6-8: Just as the Passover lambs were sacrificed to deliver the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt, Jesus is our Passover Lamb – crucified and risen – to deliver us from the destructive leaven of sin. We keep the Easter Feast by communing on the body and blood of our risen Passover Lamb.
– Mark 16:1-8 Two Marys and Salome go to Jesus’ tomb to finish anointing Jesus’ dead body only to find an angel who preaches the Easter sermon: “You seek Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”
