This Sunday is Pentecost, one of the three great festivals in the Christian Church. Pentecost happens to coincide with Memorial Day weekend this year. On Memorial Day we remember the fallen who served our country so that we can live in peace. That is a reflection of the Holy Spirit, who was poured out on Pentecost to bring to remembrance all Jesus taught the disciples. By means of God’s Word, the Holy Spirit teaches and brings to our remembrance the words of Jesus. His words bestow forgiveness and peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27).
